Using the site

These terms cover your use of delidded.com. By reading the site or using its tools, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

You are welcome to read, bookmark and share links to any page. Please do not try to break into the staff dashboard, interfere with the server, or scrape the site at a pace that slows it down for everyone else.

Hardware and firmware risk

Much of Delidded describes work that changes hardware or firmware: removing socket tabs, fitting adapter stickers, flashing a BIOS or adding microcode, programming a chip with a CH341A clip, delidding a CPU, applying liquid metal, repasting and overclocking. Any of these can go wrong. A slipped blade can bend socket pins, a failed flash can leave a board that will not start, a delid can crack a die or tear off a capacitor, and liquid metal in the wrong place can short a board. An overclock that looks stable can still corrupt data.

Most of this work also voids the manufacturer's warranty on the parts involved, and some of it cannot be undone.

You do this work at your own risk. Before you start:

  1. Read the manufacturer's documentation for your exact board and CPU. Where a Delidded guide and the manufacturer's instructions disagree for your hardware, follow the manufacturer.
  2. Power off, unplug the machine and wait before touching anything inside it.
  3. Ground yourself with an anti-static wrist strap or by touching bare metal on the case.
  4. Back up the current BIOS before flashing anything, and keep a way to recover it.
  5. Stop when something does not match the guide. A board that behaves differently from the description is a reason to pause, not to push on.

The risk notes at the top of our how-tos are reminders, not a complete list of what can go wrong on your bench.

Accuracy of specs and compatibility notes

We check figures against published sources: Intel datasheets, specification updates and processor lists, chipset documentation, and board makers' CPU support lists. Even so, mistakes happen, and the hardware itself varies. Two boards with the same chipset can support different processors, a board revision can change what it accepts, and a BIOS update can add or remove support. Vendors also revise their lists over time.

Our compatibility notes describe documented support, plus community knowledge that we label as such. They are not a promise that a particular CPU will run in a particular board. Before you buy a part, check your board's support list for its exact revision and BIOS version, and confirm the processor's sSpec and stepping. If you spot an error, tell us.

Calculators and tools

The Modkit calculators and other tools on the site give estimates from the inputs you enter and the method described on each tool's page. They do not measure your hardware. Treat a result as a starting point, leave headroom, and rely on manufacturer ratings and your own measurements when they differ from the estimate. Do not use a calculator result as the only basis for a decision where a wrong answer could damage equipment or cause a fire.

Code in the lessons

The code examples in our HTML, CSS and JavaScript lessons, including the starter code in the online HTML editor, are free to reuse. Copy them, change them and use them in your own projects, personal or commercial, with no permission needed and no credit required. A link back is appreciated, never expected.

That freedom covers the code itself. The lesson text around it falls under the next section.

Our text and images

The articles, lesson text, diagrams, images and page design on Delidded belong to us. You may quote a short passage with a link to the page it came from. Republishing whole articles, large parts of them, or our images on another site, in a product or in a collection needs our written permission first. Ask at bench@delidded.com.

Specification figures such as clock speeds, cache sizes and TDP ratings are facts published by the manufacturers, and we claim no ownership of them. Product names and trademarks belong to their owners and appear here only to identify the hardware being discussed.

External links and affiliate links

We link to other sites for sources and further reading: Intel, board makers, BIOS vendors and community forums. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.

Some links go to Amazon or to shops in the CJ Affiliate network, and we may earn a commission when you buy through them. Any purchase is between you and the seller, under the seller's terms, return policy and warranty. Product details on the shop's own page take precedence over anything we wrote. How these links handle your data is covered in our privacy policy.

No warranty

Delidded is provided as it is and as available. We do not promise that the site, its guides, its data or its tools are accurate, complete, current or suitable for your particular purpose, or that the site will always be online and free of errors.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Delidded and its writers are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site or from following, or failing to follow, anything on it. That includes damaged or destroyed hardware, lost data, voided warranties, lost time and any indirect or consequential loss. Some states do not allow certain limits on liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

We may update these terms as the site changes. The new version applies from the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
