Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850: 2-core, 3.0 GHz, Conroe, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 4 MB (shared) L2, 65 W TDP.
Conroe in its 1333 MT/s form: two 65 nm cores on one die, sharing 4 MB of L2, with a 9x multiplier for 3.0 GHz. Its LGA 771 relative is the Xeon 5160, which reaches the same clock on the same bus with the same cache. At 65 W it is easy to cool, and its Tcase limit is 72 °C. It lacks SSE4.1, which the Wolfdale E8500 adds, but has VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep. One stepping shipped, G0, as SLA9U with CPUID 6FB. In an old build it suits software that leans on one or two threads, and a board that already runs 1333 MT/s Conroe chips.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| G0 | 6FB | SLA9U |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
It goes straight into a board that runs Conroe on a 1333 MT/s bus. Check the maker's CPU list for the E6850 (G0) and the BIOS version that adds it; a board limited to a slower bus will not run it at its rated 3.0 GHz.
