Intel Xeon X3230

KentsfieldLGA 775Launched Q3 2007

Native LGA 775

Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.

Intel Xeon X3230: 4-core, 2.66 GHz, Kentsfield, LGA 775, 1066 MT/s FSB, 8 MB (2 x 4 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.

The newest of the three Kentsfield Xeons here, launched Q3 2007, and the Xeon counterpart of the Core 2 Quad Q6700 at 2.66 GHz. Its paperwork is messy. ARK rates it 95 W, while Wikipedia and CPU-World give 100 W; the table uses ARK. Intel's 3200-series spec update prints the sSpec as SLACQS, a typo for SLACS, so the CPUID, 6FB, is mapped from the G0 stepping, and CPU-World confirms it. ARK also lists no VID range for this part, so that cell stays blank. Tcase is 60.4 °C. None of that changes how it runs: a G0 quad with VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep for a home server or an old workstation.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

Native LGA 775: confirm the X3230 (G0, SLACS) on the board's support list and the BIOS version that adds it. Flashing a newer BIOS to get there? Back up the current one first and do not let the power drop mid-flash.
