Intel Xeon X3380
Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.
Intel Xeon X3380: 4-core, 3.16 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.
The fastest of the X33xx Xeons in this database: a 9.5x multiplier on the 1333 MT/s bus lands at 3.16 GHz, half a multiplier step above the X3370. No Core 2 Quad in this database runs that clock. It launched in Q1 2009, late in the life of the socket, and shipped only as E0, sSpec SLGPG, CPUID 1067A. The rest is standard Yorkfield: 12 MB of L2 in two 6 MB halves, 95 W TDP, Tcase 71.4 °C and VID from 0.85 V to 1.3625 V. On a board that runs 45 nm quads and lists it, only a faster-bus Extreme or a modded Xeon clocks higher.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| E0 | 1067A | SLGPG |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Native fit. Look up the X3380 on the board maker's CPU page; as a Q1 2009 part it needs a BIOS new enough to know it, so note the version the list names.
