Intel Core 2 Quad Q9500

YorkfieldLGA 775Launched Q1 2010

Native LGA 775

Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9500: 4-core, 2.83 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 6 MB (2 x 3 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.

A late arrival with a thin paper trail. The ARK page gives no launch date, so the table's Q1 2010 comes from Wikipedia. The chip is a Yorkfield at 2.83 GHz, multiplier 8.5 on the 1333 MT/s bus, with 6 MB of L2 as 2 x 3 MB, 95 W and a 71.4 °C Tcase. On paper it matches the Q9505 in clock, cache, bus and TDP. Its sSpec, SLGZ4, is in no Intel spec update; CPU-World gives the R0 stepping, and the CPUID 1067A in the table is mapped from that. VT-x and SSE4.1 are present, so it covers virtual machines and software that expects SSE4.1.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

No mod, just a support check. Make sure the board's CPU list names the Q9500 rather than assuming a Q9505 entry covers it; a BIOS that already carries microcode for CPUID 1067A is a good sign, but only the list is proof.
