Intel Xeon E3113

WolfdaleLGA 771Launched Q3 2008

Adapter mod

Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.

Intel Xeon E3113: 2-core, 3.0 GHz, Wolfdale, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 6 MB (shared) L2, 65 W TDP.

An unusual part: a uniprocessor Wolfdale made for LGA 771 (Wolfdale-CL, product code 80588), otherwise the same chip as the LGA 775 Xeon E3110. It runs 3.0 GHz from a 1333 MT/s bus and a multiplier of 9, with 6 MB of shared L2 on 45 nm at 65 W, plus SSE4.1, which some newer software expects, and VT-x. Built for one-CPU servers, it gives up nothing on a single-socket desktop board. ARK lists no Tcase, so the table leaves it blank. ARK's VID is 0.95 V to 1.21 V; Wikipedia's 0.85 V to 1.3625 V is the family range. The one sSpec, SLBAX, is E0, with CPUID 1067A mapped from the stepping.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

Closest LGA 775 desktop chip: Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16 GHz, 1333 MT/s, 6 MB (shared)). A board that lists it is the best sign it can run the Xeon E3113.

Being LGA 771, it still needs the adapter sticker, the two LGA 775 socket tabs cut, and microcode for CPUID 1067A with the LGA 771 platform ID, on a board that already runs 45 nm Core 2 Duo chips. Make a backup of the stock BIOS before editing it, because a corrupted image can leave the board unable to start.

Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
