Intel Xeon E5205
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon E5205: 2-core, 1.86 GHz, Wolfdale, LGA 771, 1066 MT/s FSB, 6 MB (shared) L2, 65 W TDP.
Entry point to the dual-core Wolfdale-DP Xeons: 1.86 GHz from a 1066 MT/s bus and a multiplier of 7, with 6 MB of shared L2, more cache than any Woodcrest. TDP is 65 W and Tcase 66 °C; ARK gives the launch as Q4 2007. VID is where the sources split: ARK gives 0.95 V to 1.212 V, Wikipedia 0.85 V to 1.35 V as a family range, and the table uses ARK. It has SSE4.1, which some newer software expects, plus VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep. The slower bus is a quiet advantage in an old build: an LGA 775 board that runs 45 nm Core 2 Duo at 1066 MT/s can take it at its rated clock.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| C0 | 10676 | SLANG |
| E0 | 1067A | SLBAU |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Fit the adapter sticker, cut both locating tabs from the LGA 775 socket, and add microcode for CPUID 10676 (C0, SLANG) and 1067A (E0, SLBAU) with the LGA 771 platform ID; the board must already support 45 nm Wolfdale Core 2 Duo. The tab cut is permanent, and any plastic shavings belong outside the socket, not between the pins.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
