Intel Xeon E5462
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon E5462: 4-core, 2.8 GHz, Harpertown, LGA 771, 1600 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 80 W TDP.
Built for a 1600 MT/s bus, the E5462 multiplies a 400 MHz bus clock by 7 to reach 2.8 GHz. It stays in the 80 W class with a 67 °C Tcase, 12 MB of L2 split 2 x 6 MB, SSE4.1, VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep. ARK lists Q4 2007 for its launch. Lid codes are SLANT for C0, CPUID 10676, and SLBBN for E0, CPUID 1067A. The faster bus only pays off on a board that can run it; on one that cannot, the chip runs below its rating, though it still gives you four cores and the large cache.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| C0 | 10676 | SLANT |
| E0 | 1067A | SLBBN |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Besides 45 nm Core 2 quad support, the board must run a 400 MHz bus, or the chip falls back to a lower clock. The mod itself is the sticker, both socket tabs cut away, and microcode for 10676 and 1067A with the LGA 771 platform ID; flash it on a steady supply with a backup of the current BIOS in hand.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
