Intel Xeon X5470
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon X5470: 4-core, 3.33 GHz, Harpertown, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 120 W TDP.
The X5470 reaches 3.33 GHz the plain way: a 333 MHz bus clock times a multiplier of 10, with the bus quoted as 1333 MT/s. Its launch quarter is Q3 2008, and only the E0 stepping is listed, sSpec SLBBF with CPUID 1067A. TDP is 120 W, with a 63 °C Tcase, the maximum at the center of the heat spreader. Like the other Harpertowns it has 12 MB of L2, SSE4.1, VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep. No Harpertown rated for a 1333 MT/s bus is faster.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| E0 | 1067A | SLBBF |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Only CPUID 1067A needs microcode, added with the LGA 771 platform ID, but the board must handle 45 nm Core 2 quads and a 120 W load. Fit the sticker and cut the two socket tabs. Bear in mind that a cut socket stays cut; the change is permanent whatever chip goes in later.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
