Intel Xeon L3360
Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.
Intel Xeon L3360: 4-core, 2.83 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 65 W TDP.
The L marks the low-power version of the X3360: same 2.83 GHz clock, same bus, same 12 MB of L2, rated at 65 W. Intel also allows it a higher Tcase, 76.25 °C, than the standard part. On the desktop side the matching chip is the Core 2 Quad Q9550S. That makes it the quad to pick for a small case, a quiet office machine or a home server that runs all day, where a modest cooler has to keep up. It shipped in one stepping, E0, as SLGPF with CPUID 1067A, and it launched in Q1 2009. SSE4.1, VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep are all present.

| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
No mod. Look for the L3360 on the board's CPU list with the BIOS version that adds it; its 65 W rating makes power delivery an easy ask, but 45 nm quad support in the BIOS is still a must.
