Intel Xeon L5215
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon L5215: 2-core, 1.86 GHz, Wolfdale, LGA 771, 1066 MT/s FSB, 6 MB (shared) L2, 20 W TDP.
Twenty watts is the headline: the L5215 has the lowest TDP of any chip in this database. It runs two 45 nm Wolfdale-DP cores at 1.86 GHz from a 1066 MT/s bus and a multiplier of 7, with 6 MB of shared L2. Its Tcase of 75 °C is generous, so a small, quiet cooler is enough on paper. ARK's archived page omits the socket; Wikipedia supplies LGA 771, and CPU-World confirms SLBB3 as Socket 771, stepping E0, CPUID 1067A. Launch was Q3 2008. Enhanced SpeedStep, VT-x and SSE4.1 are all there, which makes it a natural fit for an always-on file or home server in an old LGA 775 board.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| E0 | 1067A | SLBB3 |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Its only listed stepping is E0, so the BIOS needs microcode for CPUID 1067A with the LGA 771 platform ID, plus the adapter sticker on the chip and the two LGA 775 socket tabs cut off, on a board that already runs 45 nm Core 2 Duo at 1066 MT/s or faster. Unplug the machine and wear a wrist strap, because a static discharge or a slipped blade can damage parts you cannot replace.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
