Intel Xeon X3320
Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.
Intel Xeon X3320: 4-core, 2.5 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 6 MB (2 x 3 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.
Yorkfield-6M is the cut-cache Yorkfield, and the X3320 has half the L2 of the X3350: 6 MB as two 3 MB halves. The multiplier is a half step, 7.5, and a 333 MHz bus clock times 7.5 gives 2.5 GHz. On the desktop side its sibling is the Core 2 Quad Q9300. One CPUID needs a note. Intel's 3300-series spec update prints 10676h for the M1 sSpec SLAWF, but Intel's Q9000 spec update and the stepping table put M1 at 10677, and the table uses that. The later R0 stepping, SLB69, is 1067A. At 95 W with SSE4.1 and VT-x, it is a moderate 45 nm quad for a board that already knows Yorkfield.

| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| M1 | 10677 | SLAWF |
| R0 | 1067A | SLB69 |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Plain LGA 775, no adapter. The board needs 45 nm quad support in its BIOS, so check the CPU list for the X3320 with M1 or R0; if the board's final BIOS came out before Yorkfield, the chip will not be on it.
