Intel Xeon X3330

YorkfieldLGA 775Launched Q3 2008

Native LGA 775

Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.

Intel Xeon X3330: 4-core, 2.66 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 6 MB (2 x 3 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.

Same clock as the X3350, half its L2: the X3330 is Yorkfield-6M, 6 MB in two 3 MB halves, on an 8x multiplier. Its desktop twin is the Core 2 Quad Q9400, which shares the R0 stepping and the Q3 2008 launch. Only R0 shipped, as SLB6C with CPUID 1067A, so one microcode entry covers every X3330. ARK prints the top of its VID range as 13625V, missing the decimal point; the table reads it as 1.3625 V. VID is the voltage the chip requests from the board, and the low end is 0.85 V. With a 95 W TDP and a Tcase of 71.4 °C, it is an unfussy quad for a 45 nm capable board.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

No physical work: the job is finding the X3330, stepping R0, on the board maker's support list and noting the first BIOS that lists it. If an update is needed, keep a copy of the current BIOS before flashing.
