Intel Xeon X3350

YorkfieldLGA 775Launched Q1 2008

Native LGA 775

Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.

Intel Xeon X3350: 4-core, 2.66 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.

Full 12 MB Yorkfield at 95 W, and the Xeon match for the Core 2 Quad Q9450: same 2.66 GHz, same bus, same cache. It is an easier-to-cool route to a large-cache quad than the Extremes, with SSE4.1 and VT-x. Three steppings exist, C0 (SLAN7, CPUID 10676), C1 (SLAX2) and E0 (SLB8Y, CPUID 1067A), so read the sSpec on the lid before you check any board list. SLAX2 carries a conflict: Intel's 3300-series spec update prints 10676h for it, while C1 is 10677 in Intel's Q9000 spec update and the stepping table, and the table goes with 10677. Tcase is 71.4 °C.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

It fits any LGA 775 socket, but fitting is not running: the board's BIOS must list the X3350, ideally by stepping, and boards that predate 45 nm quads may never be updated for it.
