Intel Xeon E5320
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon E5320: 4-core, 1.86 GHz, Clovertown, LGA 771, 1066 MT/s FSB, 8 MB (2 x 4 MB) L2, 80 W TDP.
Sitting just above the E5310, the E5320 pairs a 1066 MT/s bus with a 7x multiplier for 1.86 GHz. Its 8 MB of L2 is split 2 x 4 MB because the quad is really two dual-core dies in one package. Unlike the E5310, it keeps Enhanced SpeedStep, Intel's clock and voltage scaling. ARK lists a Tcase of 66 °C, the limit at the center of the heat spreader rather than a core reading, and a VID range of 1 V to 1.5 V; VID is the voltage the chip asks the board for. At 80 W it wants an ordinary quad-class cooler. VT-x makes it usable for a few virtual machines. The B3 parts carry SL9MV and SLAC8 on the lid, the G0 part SLAEL.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| B3 | 6F7 | SL9MV, SLAC8 |
| G0 | 6FB | SLAEL |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
This is a Clovertown, so pick a board that already supports 65 nm Kentsfield quads, then apply the adapter sticker, cut the two socket tabs, and patch in microcode for CPUID 6F7 and 6FB under the LGA 771 platform ID. Back up the current BIOS before any of that, because a failed microcode flash can leave the board unable to boot.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
