Intel Xeon L5320
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon L5320: 4-core, 1.86 GHz, Clovertown, LGA 771, 1066 MT/s FSB, 8 MB (2 x 4 MB) L2, 50 W TDP.
Think of the L5320 as the E5320 with the voltage turned down: the same 1.86 GHz from a 1066 MT/s bus and 7x multiplier, the same 8 MB of L2, but a 50 W TDP and a VID range of 1.1 V to 1.25 V. Tcase comes down with it, to 60 °C at the center of the heat spreader. On power management the sources clash. ARK says Enhanced SpeedStep is present, Intel's spec update lists no EIST for SLA4Q, SLAC9 or SLAEP, and the table says no, so the chip lacks Intel's clock and voltage scaling. For a low-heat quad with VT-x in a cramped case, it does the job.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| B3 | 6F7 | SLA4Q, SLAC9 |
| G0 | 6FB | SLAEP |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
The board needs Kentsfield quad support before anything else, then the sticker, the two cut socket tabs and BIOS microcode for 6F7 and 6FB under the LGA 771 platform ID. Cutting the tabs is a permanent change, so settle on the board before the blade comes out.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
