Intel Xeon E5345

ClovertownLGA 771Launched Q1 2007

Adapter mod

Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.

Intel Xeon E5345: 4-core, 2.33 GHz, Clovertown, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 8 MB (2 x 4 MB) L2, 80 W TDP.

At 2.33 GHz the E5345 is the quickest of the 80 W Clovertowns, with a 1333 MT/s bus, a 7x multiplier and 8 MB of L2 split 2 x 4 MB between its two dies. That 80 W TDP keeps cooler and board power needs in normal quad territory, which makes it the sensible 65 nm pick for a board that cannot feed the X-series. Enhanced SpeedStep and VT-x are present, SSE4.1 is not. Dates differ: ARK says Q1 2007, Wikipedia says November 14, 2006, and the table follows Intel. It was built for two-socket servers; on a desktop board it simply fills the one socket.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

Treat it like any Clovertown: the board needs Kentsfield quad support, the CPU gets the adapter sticker, the socket loses its two tabs, and the BIOS gets microcode for 6F7 and 6FB with the LGA 771 platform ID. A slipped blade near the socket can bend contacts, so cut slowly in good light.

Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
