Intel Xeon L5318
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon L5318: 4-core, 1.6 GHz, Clovertown, LGA 771, 1066 MT/s FSB, 8 MB (2 x 4 MB) L2, 40 W TDP.
An odd one: the L5318 is a 40 W Clovertown that ARK marks Embedded Options Available, though its ARK vertical segment is Server. It runs 1.6 GHz on a 1066 MT/s bus with 8 MB of L2, a VID range of 0.9 V to 1.25 V, and a Tcase of 72.2 °C, a higher limit than the L5310 or L5320 get. The data lists one sSpec, SLAJE, a G0 part, and it is missing from Intel's spec update, so its CPUID 6FB comes from the stepping table. ARK dates it Q1 2007; Wikipedia gives August 13, 2007; the table uses Intel's quarter. Enhanced SpeedStep and VT-x are listed, which makes it a frugal quad for a machine that never switches off.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| G0 | 6FB | SLAJE |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Use a board that already runs Kentsfield quads, put the adapter sticker on the chip, cut the socket's two key tabs, and add microcode for CPUID 6FB with the LGA 771 platform ID. A sticker seated off its notches can keep the board from starting, or short a contact, so check it from every side before closing the lever.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
