Intel Xeon L5410
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon L5410: 4-core, 2.33 GHz, Harpertown, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 50 W TDP.
A 50 W Harpertown on a 1333 MT/s bus, the L5410 runs 2.33 GHz from a 7x multiplier and keeps the full 12 MB of L2. ARK marks it Embedded Options Available while listing its segment as Server. The low-voltage rating comes with a lower Tcase, 57 °C at the center of the lid, so cooler contact still matters despite the low TDP. VID is 0.85 V to 1.35 V. SSE4.1, VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep are present. C0 is SLAP4, CPUID 10676; E0 is SLBBS, CPUID 1067A. A sensible chip for a quiet home server.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Closest LGA 775 desktop chip: Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33 GHz, 1333 MT/s, 4 MB (2 x 2 MB)). A board that lists it is the best sign it can run the Xeon L5410.
Pick a board that already runs 45 nm Core 2 quads, stick the adapter on the CPU, cut the two key tabs from the socket, and add microcode for CPUIDs 10676 and 1067A with the LGA 771 platform ID. Mistakes here cost time and hardware: a crooked sticker, a bent pin or a bad flash can each leave the board dead.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
