Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200: 4-core, 2.33 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 4 MB (2 x 2 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.
The lowest-clocked 45 nm Core 2 Quad, a spot it shares with its S twin: Yorkfield cores at 2.33 GHz from a multiplier of 7 on a 1333 MT/s bus, with 4 MB of L2 as 2 x 2 MB. Wikipedia files it under Yorkfield-6M. It launched in Q3 2008 at 95 W with a 71.4 °C Tcase, and it carries SSE4.1, which some newer software expects, plus Enhanced SpeedStep. VT-x is where the paperwork gets messy. ARK and Wikipedia say no. Intel's January 2013 spec update lists SLB5M twice, as M1 (CPUID 10677) and R0 (CPUID 1067A), and its R0 Q8200 rows carry notes that belong to other parts, including a VT flag on SLG9S, so those rows look garbled. The table uses Wikipedia's mapping, SLB5M on M1 and SLG9S on R0, and says no VT-x.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| M1 | 10677 | SLB5M |
| R0 | 1067A | SLG9S |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
No adapter and no cutting: the Q8200 is a native LGA 775 chip. Find it and your stepping, M1 or R0, on the board maker's CPU list, and if that calls for a newer BIOS, save a copy of the current one first and flash on steady power.
