Intel Xeon L5430
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon L5430: 4-core, 2.66 GHz, Harpertown, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 50 W TDP.
The quickest of the 50 W Harpertowns here, the L5430 runs 2.66 GHz from a 1333 MT/s bus and an 8x multiplier, with 12 MB of L2 split across two dies. That matches the E5430's clock at a lower power rating. It launched in Q3 2008, and only the E0 stepping is listed: sSpec SLBBQ, CPUID 1067A. Tcase is 57 °C and the VID range 0.85 V to 1.35 V. SSE4.1, VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep are present. For an always-on box that should stay quiet, it is the low-voltage Harpertown to look for.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Closest LGA 775 desktop chip: Core 2 Quad Q8400 (2.66 GHz, 1333 MT/s, 4 MB (2 x 2 MB)). A board that lists it is the best sign it can run the Xeon L5430.
With a single CPUID, 1067A, there is just one microcode entry to add, tagged with the LGA 771 platform ID, on a board that already runs 45 nm Core 2 quads; the adapter sticker and the two cut socket tabs complete the mod. If the board will not start after the flash, the BIOS backup you made beforehand is the way back, so make one.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
