Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300

Native LGA 775

Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300: 4-core, 2.5 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 6 MB (2 x 3 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.

One of the first Yorkfield quads, launched in Q1 2008 with four 45 nm cores at 2.5 GHz from a 7.5 multiplier on a 1333 MT/s bus and 6 MB of L2 as 2 x 3 MB. Early is the word that matters. Both sSpecs are early steppings: SLAMX on M0 (CPUID 10676) and SLAWE on M1 (CPUID 10677), while later Yorkfields such as the Q9400 moved to R0. SLAMX is missing from Intel's spec updates, so its CPUID is mapped from the stepping, and CPU-World confirms it. That matters for BIOS microcode, which is matched to the CPUID. Beyond that it is a plain 95 W quad with VT-x for virtual machines, SSE4.1 and Enhanced SpeedStep.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

No physical mod. Confirm the board's CPU list names the Q9300 with your stepping, M0 or M1: microcode is stored per CPUID, so a BIOS with an entry for 10677 can still lack 10676, or the reverse.
