Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450

YorkfieldLGA 775Launched Q1 2008

Native LGA 775

Drops into a supported LGA 775 board as it is; check the board's CPU list. How to check.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450: 4-core, 2.66 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 775, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 95 W TDP.

The Q9450 pairs 2.66 GHz with the full 12 MB of L2, two 6 MB halves, a cache step above the Q9400 at the same clock. The LGA 775 Xeon X3350 matches it in clock, bus, cache and TDP. It launched in Q1 2008 alongside the Q9300 and Q9550, and both of its steppings are early ones: C0 (SLAN6, CPUID 10676) and C1 (SLAWR, CPUID 10677). SLAN6 is not in an Intel spec update; CPU-World confirms the C0 stepping, and the CPUID is mapped from it. The board's BIOS needs microcode for whichever CPUID you hold. Beyond that: a 1333 MT/s bus, 95 W, a 71.4 °C Tcase, VT-x and SSE4.1.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

No physical mod. Check the board maker's list for the Q9450 and both steppings, C0 and C1, use at least the BIOS release it names, and keep a backup of the current BIOS before updating in case the new one misbehaves.
