Intel Xeon X3353

YorkfieldLGA 771Launched Q1 2008

Adapter mod

Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.

Intel Xeon X3353: 4-core, 2.66 GHz, Yorkfield, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 12 MB (2 x 6 MB) L2, 80 W TDP.

Picture an X3350 moved to the server socket and rated lower: the X3353 has the same 2.66 GHz clock and 12 MB of L2, but it is an LGA 771 uniprocessor Yorkfield-CL (product code 80584) at 80 W, sold to OEMs only. ARK lists no Tcase and no VID range for it, so both are empty in the table, and the archived page lacks a socket and a launch date as well. The socket comes from Wikipedia and CPU-World, the quarter from Wikipedia. CPU-World confirms model, clock, bus, socket and TDP for both sSpecs, SLASD (C1) and SLBC4 (E0), but not the CPUID; 10677 and 1067A are mapped from the stepping.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

Closest LGA 775 desktop chip: Core 2 Quad Q8400 (2.66 GHz, 1333 MT/s, 4 MB (2 x 2 MB)). A board that lists it is the best sign it can run the Xeon X3353.

Adapter sticker on, both key tabs cut out of the LGA 775 socket, and BIOS microcode for CPUID 10677 or 1067A carrying the LGA 771 platform ID; skip boards that do not already list 45 nm Yorkfield quads. A crooked sticker or a failed flash can leave the board dead, so keep a backup of the current BIOS.

Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
