Intel Xeon 5130

WoodcrestLGA 771Launched Q2 2006

Adapter mod

Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.

Intel Xeon 5130: 2-core, 2.0 GHz, Woodcrest, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 4 MB (shared) L2, 65 W TDP.

The 5130 is where the 5100 line moves up to the 1333 MT/s bus, and it pairs that bus with a low multiplier: a 333 MHz bus clock times 6 gives 2.0 GHz. Cache is the same 4 MB of shared L2 as its siblings, at 65 W. Its EIST entry rests on a messy source. Intel's spec update gives no EIST note for the B2 sSpecs SL9RX and SLABP, while the G0 row for SLAGC repeats the full note set of the LV 5148 row above it, low-voltage note included, so that row looks copied. Wikipedia puts demand-based switching on the 5140 and up, so the table says no despite ARK's yes. ARK also lists embedded options for it. In a build, it needs a board that runs a 1333 MT/s bus to reach its rated clock.

A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.

Mod notes

Press the adapter sticker onto the pads, trim the two socket keys from the LGA 775 socket, and load microcode for 6F6 and 6FB with the LGA 771 platform ID into a BIOS that already supports 65 nm Core 2 Duo at 1333 MT/s. Removing the keys cannot be reversed, so work slowly and keep the blade away from the pin field, where one nick can damage a contact.

Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
