Intel Xeon LV 5148
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon LV 5148: 2-core, 2.33 GHz, Woodcrest, LGA 771, 1333 MT/s FSB, 4 MB (shared) L2, 40 W TDP.
The LV 5148 pairs the clock, bus and multiplier of the 5140 with a 40 W rating: 2.33 GHz from a 1333 MT/s bus at 7x, two cores and 4 MB of shared L2. Its Tcase is 58 °C, tighter than the standard 5100 parts, so case airflow matters more than the low TDP suggests. Sources split twice. ARK dates it Q2 2006 while Wikipedia gives September 27, 2006, and ARK's VID of 1.15 V to 1.25 V differs from Wikipedia's 1 V to 1.5 V family range; the table uses ARK for both. As a build chip it is a quiet, cool dual core with VT-x and Enhanced SpeedStep.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| B2 | 6F6 | SL9RR, SLABH |
| G0 | 6FB | SLAG4 |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Use the adapter sticker, remove the two socket tabs, and add microcode for 6F6 (SL9RR, SLABH) or 6FB (SLAG4) with the LGA 771 platform ID on a board that already runs Conroe Core 2 Duo at 1333 MT/s. Work on a powered-down, unplugged board, because static or a dropped screwdriver can kill an otherwise healthy chip.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
