Intel Xeon LV 5128
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon LV 5128: 2-core, 1.86 GHz, Woodcrest, LGA 771, 1066 MT/s FSB, 4 MB (shared) L2, 40 W TDP.
Think of the LV 5128 as the low-voltage twin of the 5120: same clock, bus and multiplier, at a lower TDP. That means 1.86 GHz from a 1066 MT/s bus and a multiplier of 7, 4 MB of shared L2 and 40 W. ARK files it with embedded options and lists a Tcase of 58 °C. Two source disagreements sit behind the table. ARK gives Q2 2006 as the launch, while Wikipedia gives December 4, 2006; the table uses Intel's quarter. ARK also says it has Enhanced SpeedStep, but Intel's spec update lists no EIST for SL9XA or SLAG6, so the table says no. In an old build it makes a cool-running two-core box with VT-x.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| B2 | 6F6 | SL9XA |
| G0 | 6FB | SLAG6 |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Like the other Woodcrests it needs the adapter sticker, both socket key tabs removed and microcode for CPUID 6F6 and 6FB with the LGA 771 platform ID, on a board whose list already includes Conroe Core 2 Duo. Trimming the tabs voids any warranty the board had left and cannot be undone.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
