Intel Xeon LV 5138
Runs in an LGA 775 board only with the adapter sticker, the socket tabs removed and BIOS support for its core. How the mod works.
Intel Xeon LV 5138: 2-core, 2.13 GHz, Woodcrest, LGA 771, 1066 MT/s FSB, 4 MB (shared) L2, 35 W TDP.
At 35 W the LV 5138 has the lowest TDP of any Woodcrest, yet it still runs 2.13 GHz from a 1066 MT/s bus and a multiplier of 8, with 4 MB of shared L2. Its Tcase, the limit at the center of the heat spreader, is 70.8 °C, the highest listed for a Woodcrest, which gives it some slack in a warm, cramped case. ARK puts the launch in Q2 2006 and Wikipedia gives December 4, 2006; the table uses Intel's quarter. ARK lists embedded options. Enhanced SpeedStep and VT-x are both on board, which makes it a sensible chip for a small always-on LGA 775 server where heat and noise matter more than speed.

Steppings and microcode IDs
| Stepping | CPUID | sSpec |
|---|---|---|
| B2 | 6F6 | SL9RN |
| G0 | 6FB | SLAG3 |
A BIOS needs a microcode update matching the CPUID (and, for Xeons, the LGA 771 platform ID). See LGA 771 Xeon microcode and how to read your stepping.
Mod notes
Sticker on the CPU, both key tabs cut away, and the BIOS patched with microcode for CPUID 6F6 (SL9RN) or 6FB (SLAG3), whichever you have, with the LGA 771 platform ID; the board must already list Conroe Core 2 Duo. Touch bare metal of the case before handling the chip, and know that a slip with the cutter can damage the socket for good.
Check a specific board with the LGA 771 to 775 compatibility checker.
